Across Ten Mountains & Three Rivers: Stories of the Rohingya Exodus

There are many like me in the camp. I was just seventeen when I came here. I have taken a long journey, a tough journey. But nothing has broken me yet. The future is uncertain for me, for us. But I know I can hope for a brighter tomorrow. I know I can shape my present, so I study. I read everything, I wish to reach the people across the world. I want to tell my story, our story, to you, you and the people of this world.
— Mohammad Rafiq

Layering oral histories with portraits taken by humanitarian photographer Sayed Asif Mahmud, Across Ten Mountains & Three Rivers examines how displacement is represented, remembered, and made visible in public. Centering individual voices and experieences, the installation resists the abstraction and flattening effects of the refugee label.

Developed in collaboration with Bangladeshi sculptor and metal artist Tejosh, the structure was designed for ease of movement, assembly, and disassembly. Lightweight and transportable by rickshaw, it can be installed and deinstalled within two hours.
